Top 10 Resume and Interview Tips

1. Customize your resume for each position you apply for. When trying to appeal to everyone, you often appeal to no one and it also shows a general lack of effort.

2. Keep your experience relevant. Avoid listing positions you held 10+ years ago, unless the experience is relevant to the position you are applying for.

3. Short and Sweet. Unless you are applying for a high-level executive position, your resume should be no longer than a page.

4. Do your homework. Research the company online and find as much information as you can when writing your cover letter and prepping for your interview.

5. Send your resume in pdf format. Different versions of Word, format differently when opened unlike pdf files, that format the same universally.

6. Print your resume on resume paper. There are lots of job seekers out there and these little touches will help you stand out. Bring extra copies to your interview.

7. Dress the part. Look at pictures of current employees online and note how they are dressed. Help the interviewer picture you working there and show you will fit in with the company culture.

8. Clean up your act. Google yourself and see what comes up. Go through all your social media profiles and make sure all of your photos and content show off who you are in the best way possible.

9. Take notes and ask questions. Bring a leather bound notebook to your interview and take notes during the session. Also be sure to prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview or when asked.

10. Send a thank you note. After your interview, send a handwritten thank you note to the person you met with thanking them for their time and expressing your continued interest in the position.
